From Rahim Pardesi to Sham Idress, these 'desi' YouTube stars are feeding sexism to millions
I have just one message for such sexist YouTubers--just stop degrading women for your own benefit.

So, I was randomly going through my Facebook feed the other day, when I came across a video titled 'When you ask her a simple question' by a popular YouTuber called Sham Idrees. Nine seconds into the video, I was seething with fury. Why, you ask? Well, this so-called funny skit, where a 'helpless' man is seen asking his wife some very simple questions only to get hostile and utterly stupid answers in response, is one of the most sexist things I have seen on the digital platform.
What's Up With Such Sexist Content?
Now, before you accuse me of exaggerating, you would like to look at some of the content yourself. For instance, take a look at this video titled 'When you buy your wife an expensive present' by Sham Idrees, a popular YouTube entertainer.
So, what are your thoughts? In fact, if you go through the videos posted by Idrees on his YouTube channel, you would be surprised with the content you find there. However, it would be unfair to pull him up alone. There are many 'desi' YouTubers out there, who are making a name for themselves by feed sexism in garb of comedy to millions of viewers.
Let's Just Stop Dumbing Girls Down
Sensing a pattern, I checked other such YouTube channels at well. In fact, I came across many--Ozzy Raja, Rahim Pardesi, Shahveer Jafry, and many others. I was surprised to see similar content spread across all these handles. When A Girl Asks If She Is Fat, When Your Wife Finds Out You Are Cheating, When Try To Prove Your Love To her, etc etc--the list is just endless.
However, what remains constant throughout is the portrayal of women in all the skits. They are shown as gold-diggers, bimbos, and cold-hearted monsters, who only care about the moolah and have no qualms about their husbands cheating on them. If you invest enough time and have ample amount of patience to actually sit through the end, you would feel really offended by the mannerisms, characteristics, and habits that are used to describe women. Because, guess what? We are certainly not like that.
Why Feed More Sexism When There Already Exists So Much?
I was a little taken aback after looking at the number of subscribers these YouTubers had. Hell! They ranged in millions. Meaning, millions of impressionable viewers are watching sexism in the name of comedy without even realizing it. Moreover, while we are already trying to battle movies, songs, and shows that downgrade women--influx of unrestricted sexist content is thriving right under the umbrella of the digital medium. Not to mention, it's even more accessible when it's all out there on YouTube and Facebook.
It's Really Insulting To Women
We may have been rallying against songs like Chikni Chameli and Fevicol se for being insulting to women, but such so-called funny videos are not funny either. They insinuate the same message and are really offending. At least as a woman, I really did not enjoy the jibes, the underlying message, and the jokes directed at my entire gender.
If such creators of content want to make it big in the digital space, they really should work harder at their jokes and not take the cheap shot for popularity.
