Making love day after day between the sheets can get mundane and boring. Not to mention, if your sex life lacks the element of surprise--it can dull the spark between you and your partner. So, what to do you? Well, you try different positions, go on romantic dates, and think of ideas on how to make sex more interesting. But, if any of these novel ideas include having sex in the water then you better let go of it.

Yup, ladies. Turns out, making love under the shower or in a pool can do horrible things to your body. Intrigued? Well, here's what can happen:

You Can End Up With A Bacterial Infection

Yes, yes--we get it's romantic, almost idyllic, when you and your bae try some moves with waves splashing around you. But, at what cost? Be it a lake, a swimming pool, or a beach--all these places are a storehouse of bacteria. Now, it's sort of okay when you decide to go for a swim in public pools or beaches, but if you jump in sans your underwear and then proceed on to make love--you are inviting the bacteria to come in close contact with your private parts.

Also, if the water is not thoroughly cleaned with chlorine, you can end up getting urinary tract infection (UTI) or a yeast infection. Not pretty, no?

Having Sex Under Water Can Be Pretty Painful

Wait…what? Yup, that's right. And you thought it's going to be fun.

According to a report published in Self magazine, "It's counter-intuitive, but having sex in the water can be tougher on your vagina than having it in a bed. When something is plunging in and out of your vagina underwater, some of that water will naturally find its way inside you, washing away your lubricating vaginal secretions, and potentially drying you out. That lack of lubrication can make you more prone to micro-abrasions."

So, there you go. Would you still want to give it a try?

Say Hola To Sexually Transmitted Diseases

It's not just painful sex that you should be worried about. STDs are pretty common too when you have sex in water. For starters, the friction caused due to lack of lubrication can damage the condom. Also, it can cause tears in the vaginal wall.

"Chlorine and other disinfectants may kill some bacteria, but they won't make it harder for you to get a sexually-transmitted infection by washing anything away. Actually, without enough lubricant, you could get micro-abrasions and theoretically boost your chances of getting or spreading an STI," explains a report published in Huffington Post.
