Event: Flash mob organized by health department in Malappuram, Kerala.

Purpose: To create awareness about AIDS in the general public as a part of the AIDS day awareness programme. What happened?: A video featuring three Muslim girls wearing headscarves dancing on the song Entammede Jimikki Kammal has gone viral on social media. Check it out:

Why did everyone's ass itch? : Well obviously because in a democracy like ours, being a girl, being a Muslim girl, and donning indecent clothes such as jeans (as in this case) are some of the criteria that apparently make you ineligible to express yourself in public or dance, don't you know?

However, what fulfilling these criteria can make you eligible for is being the perfect contender for the "immoral/slutty club"of the society.

The result?: Obvious--Slut shaming, moral policing, and even--Fatwas! Yes, you read that right. If you don't believe me, check out the reactions of people and see it yourself:

Days after this online shaming, members of the Student Federation of India held several impromptu dance performances across the state as a form of protest against it.

In Thiruvananthapuram, a flash mob was organised at the University College on Friday, where four girls wearing head scarves, like in the original video, danced to the popular number ‘Jimikki Kammal’.

A controversy had erupted over the original video, with many fundamentalists calling it the ‘end of the world’.

But, some people can't ever be happy about anything, can they?
