There's something about a secret affair with the man you love. After all, the excitement factor that comes with 'chup chup ke milna' is unparalleled.

What is also unparalleled is your parents' fury when you decide to finally tell them about your hide-and-seek game in order to take your relationship with your man and well--your parents--to the next level.

This becomes a zillion times tougher if you've got strict, conservative parents in life.

While we really can't guarantee if your parents would approve of the man you love, but what we can guarantee is that you are bound to get these five reactions from them when you tell them that you are dating someone:

First, You Will Get A Second Chance

The initial reaction of your parents would make them question their own vocabulary in life. As soon as you utter the word 'dating' from your mouth, they will pounce on you to ask you the meaning of the goddamn word. Now, you might think that they are trying to be on the same page as you are, but no, they are actually giving you a chance to take back those atom-bomb-level, destructive words back or simply redefine the meaning of dating as friendship.

And Then The Interrogation Starts...

You can see a day when the sun would rise from the west and set in the east. But there can never be a time when you tell your parents that you're dating someone and they don't immediately ask, "kab se chal raha hai yeh sab?" instantly becoming the George W. Bush to your Osama Bin Laden's conspiracy-like love life.

Followed By A Complete Breach of Privacy

The next most obvious step in this Scotland-Yard-level investigation is your parents delving further into your love life and asking if the guy you're seeing has touched you just to make sure that their virgin daughter is still pure.

They can seek this assurance from you in the form of some harsh words like, "Have you crossed your limits?" or some comparatively-polite-but-equally-embarrassing questions like "Was he the Meghna you spent the night with after that complicated project?"

The Follow-Up Measures Are Directly Proportional To How Conservative Your Parents Are

These measures can range from, "jaldi shadi karwao iski" to "no work/outings/college from now onward" to having your phone/car confiscated if your parents are strict "disciplinarians".

In case of Bollywood-inspired conservative parents, however, the follow-up measures include some crying and utterance of the very melodramatic words, "is din ke liye paida kiya tha" as though you have committed a sin by exercising your right to love someone and choose your own goddamn partner in life.

But In The End, They Will Love You Like No Other

Once the drama subsides, they will either sit you down and give you a chance to make them meet the guy who has apparently made their dear beti cross her maryada or simply call his parents and accuse them of bringing up a morally corrupt son for encroaching upon their daughter's sanskari way of life.

Either way, the dust will settle and eventually, your parents will accept the guy if they think he's the right one for you. So be patient girls, it'll all be fine in the end, we say.
