What is the first word that comes to your mind when someone says 'police?

I bet that 'corruption is one of the first things that came to your mind. Yes, with Hindi movies and real life experiences, most people associate police with taking bribes and being corrupt.

But isn't there always a good, honest, inspiring cop for all the corrupt ones? Yes of course. There is always a Singham in the force. But we are used to associating men with police, hence the term singham. But a lady cop in Ahmadabad is doing hatke policing. She is Manjita Vanzara, ACP Ahmadabad city.

When we hear the word police, we immediately think of goons and criminals being beaten up, Bollywood style. Remember Rani Mukherjee in Mardaani (2014)? Yeah, that kind.

But Manjita works in a different manner. Before I tell how, here are five interesting facts about this amazing woman :

1. First female Assistant Commissioner Of Police (ACP) of F-Division

She cleared her civil services exams in 2011, and in 2013, she became the first female ACP of F- Divison. There are multiple divisons or let's call the branches, in which policing is divided.

2. A NIFT graduate

Yes, that's right. Manjita is a former student of the prestigious National Insitute of Fashion technology, Gandhinagar. So, she is both a qualified fashion designer and a qualified super cop.

3. Before being a fashion designer, she is also an engineer. She completed her graduation from Nirma University, Gujrat. Whew!

4. She is a gold medallist.

Padhai toh sabhi karte hai, but Manjita aced her studies. She did her post graduation in Education and earned a gold medal in that. It was during thius time that she started preparing for her civils

5. She is a trained Bharatnatyam and Kuchipudi dancer.

Manjita works for the welfare of non-priviledged women

And you thought policeman, correction- policewoman thought about criminals all day.

It has never been about money for Manjita, it has always been about helping people. She could have earned a lot of money, but she chose to work for people instead.

Yes, Manjita's family is full of IAS and IPS officers, but she chose her path not because of family pressure, but out of a sole need to do good for her society. The pet project that she heads, named 'SurakshaSahay' was started by her police department, to rehabilitate women who were involved in making illegal desi liquor at home or other petty crimes. Her efforts have helped rehabilitate many women.
