Lata to be honoured with 'Lifetime achievement award' at GIMA

Melody queen Lata Mangeshkar will be conferred with the 'Lifetime achievement award' for her stellar achievements in the field of music during the inaugural edition of the Global Indian Music Awards (GIMA).

"The nightingale of the Indian music industry, Lata Mangeshkar has inspired generations of aspiring singers with her unstinting passion for music, continuing to be a guiding light for many budding singers even today," a press release here today said.

The award will be presented at a function on Wednesday night at Yash Raj Studios in suburban Andheri, it said.

In a career spanning six and a half decades, Lata has won several prestigious awards and honours including the Padma Bhushan (1969), Padma Vibhushan (1999) and Dada Saheb Phalke Award (1989), among several others.

She is the second vocalist ever to have received the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour. Lata also featured in the Guinness Book of World Records from 1974 to 1991 for having made the most recordings in the world.

GIMA, which has been conceptualised to honour India' musical talent across all genres has Asha Bhosale as its Goodwill ambassador, the release said.

Some of the biggest names of the Indian music industry including Asha, Sunidhi Chauhan, Shaan, Shankar Mahadevan, Ustad Rashid Khan, Pt Vishva Mohan Bhatt, Salim-Suleiman and Shreya Ghoshal among many others are likely to attend the awards evening, it said.
