Folks, I write this with a heavy heart full of memories from the Global Citizen Festival, Mumbai this year. If you're thinking I lack the gratitude to be thankful for Chris Martin actually singing and not just lip syncing, I'd like to draw your attention to the other problems that concerned me.

First things first: Give your judgmental ass a backseat because I'm going to drop a bomb on all you "hep" English rap/jazz/EDM lovers. I am a Honey Singh fan and quite unabashedly so. In fact, so unabashed is my love for Punjabi numbers that for me Coldplay meant playing out in the cold before I was forced to attend the concert by my friends.

And now, history is all set to repeat itself. Same place, similar concert--just a different artist. Ed Sheeran it is, fellas.

I know the misery of not knowing jacks**t about English songs and landing up with your limited knowledge in a concert or just being among people who can tell you about the exact hour when their favourite pop star poops. Hence, I have taken it upon myself to enlighten you all with some basic knowledge about Edward Christopher Sheeran--yes that's Ed Sheeran for you, peeps--just so that you don't feel left out like Joey from Friends. Take a look:

1. Mr. Cuteness-overloaded Sheeran was born in February 1991, in Halifax, England. I am mentioning the birth details not to help you match your kundlis (for God's sake, he's taken by his childhood sweetheart Cherry Seaborn) but because I want you to know that this youngster actually started out quite young. Having garnered attention for his online performances, he rolled out his first official EP, The Orange Room during his teenage years. He gradually moved to London and US and collaborated with various artists before he finally hit jackpot with Sing, his first number-one single in June 2014.

2. Coming to the main point now, to make it through the concert or to simply look like a smartass in front of those English friends, you've got to listen to popular Ed Sheeran numbers like Shape of You (already a club anthem), Thinking Out Loud (romantic number), The A Team (a heartfelt ballad that talks about drug addiction), Lego House (again, a soft, romantic number), and Happier (the perfect break-up song).

3. If you've already not guessed it by now, let me put your doubts to rest and tell you that he is a love-song master. In our desi, Bollywood language, he's the Arijit Singh of the West, who presents heart-touching lyrics with a soft pop melody and a dash of hip hop to go with it. Not to mention, many of his songs are inspired from his own experiences in life.

4. On second thoughts, you can also compare him to Saif Ali Khan. Of course, I am not calling Saif a singer or Ed an actor, but Ed is just as obsessed with tattoos as Saif is with Kareena and well--her name's tattoo. Except, nearly all of Ed's tattoos have something to do with his career: He's got a 'Lego head', the word 'Bloodstream', and a tattoo honouring his first single, A-Team.

5. Pardon me for not calling Ed an actor in the above point when in fact, he is one. And his acting project wasn't an English version of Himesh bhai's Aapka Suroor. He did a cameo in--wait for it--the premiere episode of Game of Thrones Season 7. Remember that Lannister soldier sitting by the fire? Well, that was our lad, Ed.

Now that you've got enough information on him, why don't you get back to packing your bags for the concert? Enjoy yourselves peeps and hope and pray that this one doesn't turn out to be an extension of the Justin Beiber concert, wherein Ed simply comes, lip syncs and leaves. Oh, and one last point before I sign off. Just like Bieber fans are Beliebers, Sheeran fans are Sheerios. Go pack now!
