It's good to be gay in Lucknow, as the city holds its first ever queer pride parade

The city of nawabs was painted rainbow this Sunday!

  • Lucknow organized its first ever Queer Pride Parade this past Sunday. Although it took 18 years for the parade to visit the city of Nawabs, the event saw the LGBTQ community come together in harmony to paint the city rainbow!

  • Around 300 people participated in the walk, that covered a distance of 1.5 Kms. It began from the Sikandarbagh crossing to the General Post Office Hazratganj.

  • The pride saw various quirky placards that aimed to spread the message of equal rights for every one. Just like this one which said that everyone is a human being regardless of their sexual orientation.

  • People had also arrived all the way from Mumbai, Kolkata, Chandigarh, and Jaipur to show their solidarity with the LGBTQ community of Lucknow.

  • Love transcends everything, even gender. However, the LGBTQ community is still discriminated against,  because of rampant homophobia in our country. The key is to smash this mindset! Much like this placard.

  • There are various stigmas and stereotypes attached to the LGBTQ community. At the Lucknow pride, members of the community busted them with impactful slogans.

  • Participants carried rainbow flags with them, while some even painted themselves in VIBGYOR, as they marched for 1.5 kilometres.

  • People danced on the streets and shouted slogans. All in all, it was celebration for the community that is still fighting for their basic rights.
