Must-Watch Bollywood 2014: 10 no-hype movies you need to catch up on

We give you ten under-hyped films of 2014, which you need to catch up on, in case you've missed them last year.

  • Ugly
    Anurag Kashyap's Ugly was the last major release of last year, and a lot of us might not have been able to watch it yet. This dark thriller has received praises from all quarters of filmdom and the audience, and deserves a watch.

  • Sulemani Keeda
    Two unknown writers, and a dream of creating a tornado in Bollywood with a script. Sulemani Keeda is a slacker comedy, which has been appreciated by all the people who have watched it. Watch.

  • Ungli
    This Rensil D'Silva film opened to mixed reactions from both viewers and the critics, but it struck a chord with most people. A different take on dealing with corruption, Ungli featured an ensemble cast featuring Emraan Hashmi, Randeep Hooda, Kangana Ranaut, Sanjay Dutt and others. A one-time watch, at least.

  • Filmistaan
    A film portraying the love for Hindi films across borders. A wanna-be actor from India and a pirated DVD seller from Pakistan, and how their relationship changes over discussion of Bollywood films is the central story of the film. Sharib Hashmi and Inaamulhaq's performances received much applause from both critics and the audience alike. If you've missed watching it last year, watching it this year will be a good decision.

  • CityLights
    Directed by Hansal Mehta and starring Rajkummar Rao and Patralekha in lead roles, CityLights dealt with the life of a poor farmer from Rajasthan, who goes to Mumbai searching for a better life. The film was praised by critics, and in case you haven't been able to watch it in 2014, do so this year.

  • Hawaa Hawaai
    A young boy's dream to skate. And a coach who gives wings to his dream. Saqib Saleem and Partho Gupte's roles in this film were much appreciated, and the story won many accolades both in the country and abroad. A must-watch from Bollywood 2014.

  • Queen
    2014 saw some films that gave Feminists in the country some hope regarding Bollywood. Queen was among these films. Starring Kangana Ranaut, Lisa Haydon and Rajkummar Rao in pivotal roles, the film portrays the journey of a bride who is ditched right before her wedding day, and how she discovers herself.

  • Highway
    Famously touted and appreciated as Alia Bhatt's coming of age film, Highway saw the actress in a brilliant performance. Along with Alia, Randeep Hooda's role, too, was praised a lot. If you haven't watched Highway yet, make sure you do as soon as possible.

  • Hasee Toh Phasee
    A feel-good rom-com, Hasee Toh Phasee saw some great performances from Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra. The film deals with commitment and loyalty issues, and finally culminates in an expected, but happy ending.

  • Bollywood has had quite a good 2014, as far as quality cinema is concerned. While certain films were extremely hyped, but weren't able to match up to it, there were some no-hype others, which turned out to be good to watch. We give you ten such under-hyped films of 2014, which you need to catch up on, in case you've missed them last year.

    Dedh Ishqiya
    The Babban-Khalujan duo (Arshad Warsi-Naseeruddin Shah) from Ishqiya was seen in its sequel, Dedh Ishqiya. Humour, action and drama made this an entertaining film...and marked Madhuri Dixit's comeback in Hindi films, after Aaja Nachle. Huma Qureshi's role, too, was much appreciated. If you missed this film last year, make sure you watch it in 2015.
