Kangana: The ever-changing style icon

  • "I'm going to direct a movie! In four years!" she proclaims. "I already have a script, and it's a love story." With her outsider status, her brusque honesty, and unstinting work ethic, Kangna is the one to watch. For this girl, Bollywood is about work first and lifestyle later, and when it comes to her career, she's got a few more aces up her sleeve.

  • The petite star is a veritable mannequin, transforming her looks from Mughal queen to beach-tastic babe or runway diva. As something of a style icon, one wonders who her favourite designers are. "A lot of them!" she says, laughing cheekily. "It's not the designer, but the design you fall in love with. With any fashion sense, you must know that looking beautiful is looking graceful. In terms of clothes, I like Louis Vuitton, Bottega, Anna Sui, Moschino... the list is endless. From India-I'm partial to Sabyasachi and Reza. A 'favourites' list would be very difficult! But I'm not somebody who believes in only wearing brands. Even if I wear a designer outfit, it is often something that a girl can look at and get her tailor to make."

  • "Sometimes it's as simple as: you get a film, you like the script, and you're on. Even if there are things you don't like about it, you still do it. You're not going to tell people to change their script because you want to do some action. You're not in a place like that.offered a role, you like it, you do it."

  • With a slew of acting awards under her belt, Kangna clearly takes her profession seriously. "When you're a newcomer you just want work," she says. "Sometimes it's as simple as: you get a film, you like the script, and you're on. Even if there are things you don't like about it, you still do it. You're not going to tell people to change their script because you want to do some action. You're not in a place like that.offered a role, you like it, you do it."

  • Looks are a major concern in the glam industry and Kangna's rumoured association with cosmetic surgery are all over the press. She shows me some of the scars on her feet from a motorcycle accident while shooting Tanu Weds Manu. "People ask me if I'm planning to go for surgery, but I'm against it. I have stitches on my face and lip, but I don't plan to get rid of them. I have certain memories attached to them."

  • Has she found love? I've found love everywhere, and I'm more than happy to find love," says Kangna somewhat cryptically. That's understandable. With her every move being tweeted on or blogged about, she's bound to be discreet.

  •  "I find it difficult to have a personal life now. I feel so isolated from my world, because to a lot of people in Mumbai I'm a star. But I don't want to change anything about Bollywood-everyone has been very kind to me." As for scandal, a lot was made of her relationships with Aditya Pancholi and Adhyayan Suman.

  • Kangana is breaking the cycle this year with leading roles in action films as well as love stories. "Once Upon A Time in Mumbai is out on July 30, and it's going to be a very big release," says Kangna. "Then there's Tanu Weds Manu, Knock Out, and No Problem coming up."

  • "I'm doing a lot of films this year, and I'm starting two more projects-one's a comedy and one's a love story. I really enjoy comedy."
