    All health magazines have been promoting Quinoa as a superfood. Quinoa is a pseudocereal i. e. it is cooked and eaten like a cereal but it is actually a seed. There are many cereals that can give Quinoa a run for its money. Red and black rice grown in the north east region of India are loaded with antioxidants.

    Millets that are peculiar to the Indian region include Ragi, Bajra, Jowar, rich in micronutrients. Ragi is a cereal that can compare with milk when it comes to it’s high calcium content. These millets are superfoods in the true sense. These millets are richer in iron, protein and fibre than compared to even wheat and rice.

    Flaxseed has gained attention as a superfood only recently but it has been a part of the Indian diet for ages. Flaxseeds were ground into a powder and mixed along with some red chillies to make a gunpowder- like mixture that was sprinkled over rice and lentil curry.
