Ushoshi Sengupta is quite forthright about her future plans and says her ultimate aim is to become an actress. "This would be a cliche to say that I don't want to be an actress. I have grown up thinking of being an actress. I want to do a film with Shah Rukh Khan and given a chance, I would like to do a film like Main Hoon Na," she says.
India has become a powerhouse in the Miss Universe pageant since Sushmita Sen won in 1994. These past few decades showed that India with its incredible culture and rich tradition is not only a rising world power but also one of the most successful countries in the Miss Universe.
Ushoshi was born in Kolkata, daughter of an official in the Indian Air Force. She passed out from the K.V.Ballygunje School, Kolkata, a brilliant student and a lively girl. She has a Bachelors Degree in Humanities from St. Xavier's College, and worked as a model before becoming Miss India Universe.
The Miss Universe 2010 contest, has been marred by controversy ever since some contestants posed topless for a "sexy" photoshoot by fashion photographer Fadil Berisha. Miss India Ushoshi Sengupta wore a bikini for the shoot.
According to reports, Dev R Nil has defended the design by saying that it was inspired by India's national bird peacock and they wanted to give a contemporary look to the outfit this time.
Designed by Kolkata-based designer duo Dev R Nil, the dress, seemed to lack structured tailoring and looked like a gown gone horribly wrong. It was also a deviation from the ethnic lehenga choli that Indian contestants have been wearing at the pageant for years. According to reports, many Indian designers have criticised the costume.
A deep shade of blue, expansive peacock wings and frothy blue fabric forming a train. Sounds like a fancy dress costume? Actually, it's the gown that Ms India, Ushoshi Sengupta, wore for the National Costume round of the Miss Universe pageant, in Las Vegas, US.
