I feel like I'm 'just PMSing' even when I'm upset about valid things, thanks to the men in my life

Dear Men, PMS (Please Keep your Mouth Shut)

What if I told you that the Earth is round because a week or two prior to getting their period, women PMS? What if I told you that life exists on this planet because of the same premenstrual syndrome that makes women 'go crazy' before Aunty Flo knocks their door? What if I told you that light travels faster than sound and gravity pulls us all down because women have hormonal fluctuations before getting down and thus PMS?

Sounds atrocious, right? Well, that's exactly how I feel when my reactions or anger over the most reasonable and annoying things that men do is blamed on my menstrual cycle by the very same men. From close friends to current flames to ex-boyfriends to brothers--at some point or the other, all men have done it to me and unfortunately, they continue to do so.

So Thanks To Them, PMS is PMCB (Premenstrual Confidence Breaker) For Me
I'm not sure if the serotonin fluctuations in my body while my vaginal walls shed actually cause any mood swings or not. But, bloody hell--it definitely makes me doubt myself and the validity of my emotions.

My mother once told me, if you tell a lie a hundred times over, you gradually believe it to be the truth. I think, this holds true for PMS as well. Being told that my PMS was responsible--every time I lost my temper over a guy being an irresponsible prick--gradually led me into believing it was true. So much so, that at one point, I too stopped giving any importance to my own, genuine emotions.

Angry over him cancelling on me? Maybe I'm just PMSing. Feel like murdering him because I found out he lied? Maybe I'm overreacting because of my hormones. Irritated with him for not giving me enough time? Oh, it's just because I'm only a week away from getting my period. Feel like eating out with him after a hectic day and no lunch at work? It's just the premenstrual serotonin dip that's leading to food cravings.

Whatever happened to his careless actions? Whatever happened to legit human emotions and reactions over those careless acts? Is me thinking about all this also got to do with PMS?

Well, that's the extent to which men's PMS-blaming syndrome affected me. In fact, I was only one step away from pointing out PMS as the reason behind women breathing and blinking their eyes a week prior to their period. But thankfully better sense prevailed, thanks to my female friends and well, my curiosity I delved deeper into the matter.

I Figured That Even Science Knows The Truth, But Men Just Won't Relent
As per a study in the journal Gender Research, PMS is a hugely exaggerated phenomenon. In fact, the study stated that there was no clear evidence in support of the existence of a specific premenstrual negative mood syndrome. Men, are you listening?

So, Dear Egoistic Uncles, Stop Blaming My Dear Aunty Flo All The Frickin' Time
Just look at the extent to which this absolutely sexist blame-game has frustrated me. I find dealing with those excruciatingly painful and messy five days more pleasing than dealing with a man dismissing my outbursts as a goddamn premenstrual syndrome. Simply because he's too egoistic to ever admit that he too could be at fault or that his actions could trigger a reaction--oops! In their language-overreaction.

I Thereby Demand a Separate Study on Men's PMS-Blaming Syndrome
And I along with many other women who've discussed the same problem with me will whole-heartedly be the subjects of this research. Because if men won't relent, I won't relent either. If I don't blame a guy's outburst over a bad day at work or a financial loss on some kind of itching in their b***s, then they have no right to undermine my emotions.

After all, that's my body prepping for carrying forward a man's generation, just so that we're clear on this. If a man chooses to be a thankless wreck in life despite this fact, I'd appreciate at least some respect towards Mother Nature and towards a woman for enduring so much pain. And of course, cut down on that sexist, misogynistic attitude, tiger!
