Contraception is great, but stickers to seal the penis before sex is just too much
Are penis stickers safe? Find out here.
There are a plethora of contraceptives available in the market and almost all of them are pretty safe to go with. Yet, every few years a new product hits the stands and leaves people intrigued. However, this time, innovation has taken things a little too far. We are talking about adhesive flexible stickers that are used to seal a penis before having sex. Yup, they exist.
Penis Stickers…Really?
Seems like the days of condoms, vasectomy, and male contraceptive pills are numbered. Though, the product clearly states it's not a condom and it is not approved to prevent sexually transmitted infections or pregnancy, the new penis stickers are all the rage these days.
According to a report published in news.co.au, the new product called Jiftip lets men seal their urethras shut before sex, supposedly in order to protect their penises and stop semen from getting out. "The stickers, which are currently being sold in three-packs for seven dollars, were designed to replace condoms as a more convenient and less intrusive way to cover up," states the report.
But, Is It Safe?
Jiftip may seem like a convenient way to have protected sex, but is it really safe? Turns out, health experts are not particularly pleased with the mechanics of penis stickers.
"There's no evidence to suggest that this product is safe or effective, and it could potentially be very painful. As the company themselves says, it isn't approved to prevent pregnancy or sexually transmitted infections--so if you want to avoid either of those, we'd recommend avoiding this product as well," says Natika Halil, chief executive of sexual health charity, Family Planning Association, USA in an interview to The Sun.
Jiftip Can't Prevent STIs
Unlike condoms, Jiftips are not adequate enough to prevent sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Moreover, the focus is on convenience and pleasure enhancement rather than health benefits. "Many STIs, such as syphilis, herpes and HPV, are passed on through skin-to-skin contact, so a product of this nature would never be able to protect against these," states a report published in the Daily Mail.
Not only that, these stickers close the tip of the urethra and it makes ejaculation a pretty messy business. Unlike condoms, this product doesn't provide space for semen to flow. As a result, it leaks around it. Also, sticking something with glue on a penis is probably not a good idea.
