The year is about to come to an end, and it's time you start packing your bags for a well-deserved break. After all, you have been working your ass off in 2016, and the New Year sure deserves a hearty welcome. So, why don't you plan a trip and celebrate it with your gang or family, beneath the star-studded sky and falling snow flakes.

Winter is a beautiful season, but living in jam-packed cities, we hardly get a chance to revel in its beauty. India is home to some of the world's most picturesque destinations, and it would be a shame not to visit them at this time of the year. So, here are a few places you should consider visiting to witness some magical snowfall.

Auli, Uttarakhand
This place turns into a winter wonderland during the month of December. And there's more. The snow-covered peaks are ideal for skiing. Now, just imagine the amount of fun you will have swishing past the 3000 meter high slopes. However, don't forget to pack your woolens because the temperature hits sub zero levels during winters. Also, you will be spoilt for choices when it comes to accommodation. Based upon your budget, you will easily be able to find some suitable options.

Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir

Such is the beauty of Kashmir that tourists from all around the globe flock to the state to witness its picturesque panorama. However, Gulmarg tops the chart. Situated 880 kms away from Srinagar, you can enjoy world's highest cable car ride here. Apart from enjoying Kashmiri delicacies, you can also pay a visit to popular destinations like Alpathar Lake and Tangmarg, situated not too far from Gulmarg.

Kufri, Himachal Pradesh

Kufri is a hillside getaway near Shimla. So, if you live in or around Delhi or Chandigarh, it's ideal for a quick getaway. Since it's a winter destination, the snowfall in this region is pretty awesome--much better than its surrounding areas. Apart from an idyllic landscape, Kufri is most famous for its National Snow Statue Competition. In fact, you can make a little de-your and visit other attractions around it, such as, The Himalayan Nature Park and the Indira Tourist Park.

Munsiyari, Uttarakhand
We agree a lot of hill stations are hugely overrated, but not this little piece of heaven. It's situated on the shores of Goriganga River and is slowly gaining popularity amidst tourists. Munsiyari basically means 'place with snow', and the locales sure do justice to its name. If you are a fan of trekking, then you should definitely add this place to your bucket list. Situated 125 kms away from Pithorgarh, this place it is beauty personified. If you do plan on visiting it, don't forget to look around Johar Valley. You'll be truly mesmerized.
