From Starbucks' peppermint-flavoured coffees to adding butter to our favourite caffeinated beverage--coffee lovers have surely been a super-experimental bunch. But this time around, their experiment is rather easy-to-do and tasty.

Adding salt to coffee is now a thing. Yes, we are dead serious.

No, this isn't about mistaking sugar for salt like those hated lead protagonists of our desi serials. This is about deliberately and consciously adding a pinch of common salt to your morning coffee. Just a pinch--mind it.

Stop getting grossed out, peeps. It works, it really does. Apparently, salt bonds to the portions of our taste buds that detect bitter flavours and thus, prevent us from detecting the bitterness.

But remember, this is just to cancel out the bitterness of the locally-available coffees that don't taste as well as the exotic ones, so don't go overboard with the salt. You don't want to be sipping on an obnoxious, nauseating salty caffeinated beverage in life, right?

This has another advantage too. When you cancel out the bitterness with salt, you don't need that extra dose of sugar, cream, or milk to make your coffee taste better. Now isn't that such a calorie-cutting idea.

Try this at home if you are a coffee addict and are trying to lose weight. After all, permanent weight loss is all about these small, sedentary lifestyle changes that add up for the bigger change.
