When it comes to getting or staying in shape, we are ready to go to any extent. We try all sorts of extreme diets, detox formulae, and miracle foods to stay healthy.

Did we just say try? The truth is that most of us like to be extremists in life-we almost stuff ourselves with certain edibles and start consuming them like never before, just because they seem promising.

Now there's no denying the fact that some of them can be a great boon to our health. But, what we don't understand is the simple, cardinal rule of balance and moderation. Hence even the healthiest of these options can blow up in your face if you go overboard.
Here's a list of some of the most potentially-dangerous edibles.

1. Coffee

Yes coffee-lovers, your favourite beverage keeps is loaded with antioxidants and helps you stay active throughout the day (thanks to the presence of caffeine in it). However, if you consume too much of it (read: over 500 mg or 5 cups) it in excess, you can suffer from acidity, dehydration, insomnia, and anxiety. So, think before you drink.

2. Tomatoes

Tomatoes are a powerhouse of vitamin C, potassium, and dietary fibre, and can give you a glowing skin if consumed in the right amount. But if you go overboard, you can experience acid refluxes, and in extreme cases, a precancerous condition known as Barrett's Esophagus in which the lining of the tube carrying food from the mouth to the stomach starts deteriorating.

3. Soya

Soya is packed with protein that is considered excellent for hair, nails, tissue repair, body building, and keeps the blood pressure and cholesterol levels in check. However, cross the limit, and you could turn anaemic as soya inhibits absorption of Iron in the body. Since, soya is also laden with oestrogen (yes, the female hormone), it can also lead to deterioration of the uterine lining causing uterine cancer.

4. Spinach

Don't be too inspired by Popeye, the sailor man. Because you know what? Even though his favourite food is packed with vitamins and minerals, excess of it can lead to the formation of stones in the kidney.

5. Coconut Water

This refreshing and hydrating summer beverage is definitely a healthier alternative to those aerated colas, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have any side effects. If consumed in excess, coconut water can increase the level of potassium and sugar in the blood and lead to weight gain.
