Accused attack rape survivor with acid after being released on bail in Agra
Seeking justice for assault came at a very high price for this Agra rape survivor.
Finding justice becomes a process as tumultuous as surviving assault, and a rape survivor who from Agra, is proof. Four months ago, a 20-something woman, who is a resident of Bholepur and was working as a domestic help in the city, was gang raped by four men. Her sexual assault was also documented by her rapists on video. The unidentified victim decided to lodge a complaint with the police and fight tooth and nail for justice. However, after a court hearing yesterday at the district court of Farrukhabad, she was dragged into a car, raped, and mauled with acid by four men. Two of them, she claims, are assaulters from her previous case who are out on bail.
The police say she was found near Rakha Village around 8.30 in the evening. She had been raped and assaulted with a corrosive liquid. The doctors at Farrukhabad Lohia Hospital, where she was admitted, confirm 55% burns.
"I was heading home when four men wearing masks dragged me inside a car. They kept me at an unknown location for a couple of hours and assaulted me. Later, they poured acid on me and pressured me to withdraw the case," she told the Times of India.
According to the FIR lodged by the victim after her first assault, she was attacked by three government officials and a soldier.
The accused--Ajay Pratap Singh, divisional engineer of BSNL; Amar Singh, a sub divisional officer; Yogendra Singh, a telecom firm employee; and Baljeet Singh Sardar, a soldier--assaulted the woman at Ajay Pratap Singh's house, where she worked as a domestic help. While Amar and Yogendra were granted bail by the district court, Ajay Pratap's bail plea is yet to be heard by Allahbad High Court. The fourth accused in the case--Baljeet Sardar is still absconding.
