I window shop when I am stressed--and it's the best therapy ever!

The best part about window shopping is that I don't have to spend a dime to make myself feel better.

Life is stressful. It's a constant race, if you ask me. Getting up early in the morning, force-feeding myself, rushing to work, meeting deadlines, then rushing back home once again. Not that I am complaining, but it does get a little overwhelming at times. And more often than not, I feel stressed and down in the dumps and nothing, not even my favourite sitcom is able to cheer me up.

In the past, I have  dabbled with a lot of different things to soothe my nerves. For instance, I picked up writing in a diary, going on walks, listening to music, and even shopping. But, none of them worked for me. That was until I came across an activity that perked me up, without investing much. And it was window shopping.

Now, you would say that's no novel concept. But, hear me out. I am not talking about the run-of-the-mill window shopping, where you just move through garment stores and spoil your mood over things that you can't afford to buy. I am talking about a little more modified version of that.

You see, I love to visit departmental stores that have groceries on display. It's a therapy in itself. The array of neatly stacked products is potent enough to calm me immensely. Though, I can't come up with a scientific explanation for it. But, I assume the order and the organization of the many titillating things kept there, help me in clearing my mind. Turns out, a clean environment does wonders for a stressed brain.

And that's not it. The plethora of colours picks me up like magic. Honestly, have you ever looked at the massive shelves displaying pasta bottles, sauces, dips, juices, candies, and various other things? What amalgamation of colours! It's enough to perk up any lost soul.

I have heard and read enough benefits of retail shopping and how it helps in curbing stress and depression. Yet, no one's ever told about the power of just silently walking throw the aisles in a departmental store, while just randomly glancing at products on display. The best part is: I don't have to spend a penny to make myself feel better. Just being there does the trick for me.
