26-year-old Aman Sharma was out for a walk with his brother in Kanjurgaon, Mumbai, when he heard someone crying. Assuming that it was a puppy, he looked for the source of the noise. A few minutes later, he found an auto parked alongside the road with a baby inside it. There was no one around and the child was shivering with cold. Aman rushed to rescue the baby along with his brother.

Now, this is not a plot right out of a film or a book based on a good Samaritan. This incident happened in Mumbai a few days ago. Thanks to the kindness of a responsible citizen, a 14-day-old girl was saved from a grim fate. "It was around 11:30 at night when we found the abandoned baby. A lot of people came up to me and asked what was going on. When I told them about the baby and asked for their help, they backed out. No one was ready to intervene. They even tried to stop me from contacting the police. 'Police ke chakkar mein pad jaoge.' 'Mat pado is lafde mein.'….they said," says Aman in an interview to us.

Fortunately, nothing could scare Aman from helping the baby. "I took out my phone and clicked the baby's pictures. Next, I posted them on social media and tweeted Mumbai police for help. Thankfully, we got it. A few cops came to our location within ten minutes and assisted us. I handed over the baby to them. However, I did accompany them to the hospital where the child was admitted," he continues.

Aman, who visits the baby regularly, told us that she is not doing too well now. Though the shivering has stopped, the doctors have diagnosed her with Hydrocephalus. It basically is a condition which is commonly known as 'water in the brain.'"When I went to the hospital recently, I saw two female constables stationed there to take care of the baby. It was really nice. Unfortunately, it's been a few days, but no one has tried to get in touch with the hospital authorities to claim the baby. I have also contacted an NGO because the next step is adoption. They will soon update me with the proceedings. However, it's important for the baby to recover first," says Aman.

Seriously, people like Aman restore our faith in humanity. In times where humans are more interested in recording dying people on their phones rather than helping them, Aman is an inspiration to us all. How many times have we avoided helping those in need, fearing a legal mess? Tons, right? And then we go ahead and slam everything that is wrong with the country and the system. So, Aman has a message for people like you and me.

"We always blame the society and the government for all the social evils. But, we should rather focus on helping each other. Standing as mute spectators is not okay. So, if you are in a position to help someone, please do. Don't wait for someone else to do your bid. As citizens, we should take a stand," he concludes.

True that!

In fact, even Mumbai police thanked Aman for his gesture. "Jugadu_banda alert citizens like you on the streets of Mumbai, play a major role in making it a safe city! Thank you for making sure the child reaches safe hands ThankYouMumbai," the city police tweeted on its official handle.

The cops are now trying to locate the parents of the abandoned baby. "We have registered a case under section 317(Exposure and abandonment of child under twelve years, by parent or person having care of it.) of the Indian Penal Code against unknown person and we are checking the CCTV camera footage of the locality. Moreover, we are also seeking details from nearby nursing hospitals about women who have delivered baby girl in last week," said Gajanan Tapale, Senior Police Inspector, Kanjurmarg police station, in an interview to DNA.

The police, indeed, is doing the best it can to help the baby, but it is Aman who has emerged as a true hero. Needless to say, the Twitterati are super impressed with him. And so are we.
