Dos and don'ts of casual denim

Time to take some serious denim lessons from our B-Town fashion divas.

  • Denim is the big daddy of the fashion world. Dresses, jeans, jackets, skirts, palazzo pants--basically all things denim are all the rage right now. Why wouldn't it be? After all, this fabric is a classic. But if you think classics never disappoint, we are sorry to break your bubble ladies, but they can--if not styled right. Make sure you don't ruin your style game by going wrong with this classic. Here's help:

  • Skinny Jeans
While skinny jeans can look extremely flattering, choosing the wrong fit can totally backfire as in Tamannah Bhatia's case here. To keep things safe, stick to darker colours and thicker denim, we say.

  • Comfy Jeans
If skinny pants aren't your thing, you can definitely go for a comfy pair which isn't too tight. But remember, the liberty of giving your comfort the priority doesn't mean that you go for an unflattering fit that can make you seem like you are donning a plastic bag.

  • Boyfriend Jeans
While boyfriend jeans is simply comfort wrapped in style, try sticking to cropped or straight-bottom ones instead of full-length pairs with a narrow bottom that are ill-suited especially if you have meaty legs.

  • Flared Bottom
Ladies, flared-bottom jeans that are also cropped will do absolutely nothing to visually elongate your legs and make you look slimmer. Pairing them with sports shoes instead of sleek heels or pointed-toe shoes is only going to worsen the situation.

  • The Experimental Bell Bottoms
While experimenting with your bell-bottom jeans can be a lot of fun, make sure you don't go the Jacqueline Fernandez way by going for a hideous one and making it even worse by pairing it with a loud upper. However, pairing tattered-hem jeans with a minimal white top is a good idea.

  • Denim Jackets
While we are all for denim jackets with badges, it might not look the best if you wear it over a loud dress or inner. Too much happening there in Kriti Sanon's look, don't you think? The rule here is simple: either let the denim talk or let your dress shine. You can't do both.

  • Denim Dresses
Denim dresses are chic and summery, but if you aren't a dinky babe, adding definition to your look by belting it up or simply having a few gathers around the waist will seriously help you. A little experimentation with sleeves too is going to take you places.

  • Midi Skirts
Midi skirts are perfect for a cute, feminine look, but if you choose a thicker, fluffier denim, it will only add to your width. Go for thinner, softer denim that takes the shape of your body.

  • Palazzo Pants
Denim palazzos are super trendy and fashionable. When paired with tall heels, they can make you look taller and slimmer. However, a cropped pair will do just the opposite no matter how tall and sleek your heels are, so avoid them, ladies.

  • Denim on Denim
This one trend too every fashion lover by storm, but again, it doesn't mean that your pair a loud, badged jacket with an equally loud pair of torn jeans. Keep things subtle like Malaika Arora to make the most of this trend.
