Going to the prom for the first time, that first kiss, the first relationship, losing your virginity-aren't all the firsts so special in our lives? After all, we hold on to the memories of our first time at everything for the rest of our lives.

However, amongst all these important life occasions, there happens to be another kind of first which is painfully special. We are talking about the much-dreaded bikini waxing that every girl has on her mind, but not every girl has the courage to go ahead and get done.

If you too happen to be sailing in the same boat of confusion and dilemma about getting rid of your lady garden the hard way, here are seven things you must know before heading out to the salon for a bikini-waxing session:

First Thing's First: Get Your Basics Right
Ladies, before you take the plunge, you've got to know that there's a huge difference between bikini waxing and Brazillian waxing, which most of us are unaware of. While bikini waxing typically involves hair removal along your bikini line, Brazilian waxing involves removing every spec of hair down there. Yes, that means everything from front to back, leaving nothing down there at all, unless of course you want to retain a landing strip--though that would be the French style. Also, there's a plethora of wax options available depending on your hair growth and the amount of hair to be removed. You can count on your parlour aunty for suggestion.

It IS Possible To Protect Your Modesty While Getting It Done

Believe it or not, you don't have to go totally bare from waist below in front of your parlour aunty if you don't want to. You can keep those pants on because trust us, they can very well work around your comfort levels. Having said that, you must also keep in mind that it's more comfortable to take your pants (and panties) off for both parties. So stop feeling all that coy. Remember, they're professionals, who've seen it all, and you're just another client for them.

It's As Painful As Getting Spanked on The Ass. Or Maybe Not?
We made that comparison just to make you feel better and well, less fearful. The amount of pain that you experience during a bikini-waxing session is directly proportional to your threshold for bearing pain. If you're someone, who sheds a river of tears over a slight paper cut, you can head back home, buy a razor on the way, and take the risk of helping yourself. But if you've got the heart, take a deep breath, and go for it. Trust us, the after-feeling is pretty darn amazing!

But, Think Twice About Shaving Your Lady Garden
Because when the hair down there sprouts back just a few days after you shave them, and if that makes you want to finally go to the salon to get them waxed, you might regret shaving more than getting into a relationship with a toxic, lying piece of s**t. For getting waxed properly, the hair down there should be at least a quarter of an inch long. So girls, no shaving at least a week before visiting the parlour aunty.

Sadly, a Bikini Wax Won't Serve Your Purpose For The Next 24 Hours
Yes, hygiene is a thing, but there's no denying the fact that usually, we think of taking this painful plunge in order to enjoy sex even more. However, having sex or working out immediately after a waxing session down there is a terrible idea as it can make you prone to catching infections, thanks to all the sweating. Not to mention, the irritation that can occur owing to friction and all that rubbing between the sheets.

Ditch The Lacey Underwear For Comfy Ones

You're bound to feel slightly numb and uncomfortable post your waxing session. In fact, slight redness, which by the way, is absolutely normal can also be a part of your experience. But the parlour aunty understands the pain and in all likelihood will finish the session with application of a soothing cream down there. However, another pro tip that can help you to get through the after-effects is to wear comfortable undies instead of sexy, lacey ones, at least initially as it can help your situation to a great extent.

Give In To Your Fear If…
You are currently suffering from UTI (Urinary Tract Infection) or an STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease) or are prone to acne down there. In fact, if there's a vacation on your mind, avoid getting a bikini wax just before going to the beach.

Understand the fact that the hair is there for a reason and that reason is to protect you from bacteria and infection. You may feel lighter post getting rid of your lady garden, but you are also prone to infections. So be careful.
