You know those annoying friends who claim they love their partners just as intensely as the day they met? They are lying, says Sonja Lyubomirsky, PhD, a psychology professor at the University of California, Riverside, and the author of The Myths of Happiness.

"Humans are good at getting used to positive changes," she says. Once we adapt to love, we crave even more, which causes some couples to cheat or break up. The good news: you can rekindle your romance by tossing out the following bad habits.

Love Killer #1
Following the same routine: Add variety and surprise so you don't get into a rut. But that doesn't mean you have to take up skydiving. Eating at new restaurants, socialising with different couples and even sleeping on the other side of the bed all count.

Love Killer #2

Too much screen time: Research shows that the mere presence of a smartphone can distract us, causing us to disconnect from one another. However a simple touch can bring us closer, Lyubomirsky says. Hold hands whenever possible, and find little ways to connect, such as running your fingers over your partner's back as you walk by.

Love Killer #3
Withholding praise: Try to notice one new positive trait each day and value him. The more you praise him, the more he'll be likely to applaud and be thankful for all you do too.
