For many the way to fulfill their sexual fantasies is pleasure, for some others, it's--pain. We're talking about the erotic and not-very-openly-talked-about practice of BDSM.

We've read about it in everyone's favourite erotica, 50 Shades of Grey. We have even watched it on-screen in the book's adaptation that pretty much bombed at the box office. But it seems like this fantasy is finally turning into reality.

No, we are not talking about BDSM disaster #2--Vikram Bhatt's web series, Maaya. We are in fact, talking about a real-life BDSM community that exists in our very own Bengaluru with over 500 active members.

Founded by Rahul (name changed), 36, a husband and the father of a five-year-old, the Official Kinky Bangalore is a community for people interested in BDSM. What started as an unofficial gathering of three at a pub on Bannerghatta Road in 2007 has now grown into a full-fledged platform for people to talk about their kink without the fear of being judged.

Surely, BDSM stands for Bondage Domination Submission and Masochism. However, there are other important aspects of this erotic practice such as consent and safety which are often ignored. So this community conducts day-long workshops, wherein common BDSM techniques are demonstrated to the participants, along with safety practices.

"Our community in the city is very diverse and we have doctors, techies, businessmen, students and even teachers who attend our sessions. A major problem we face is that most people still believe that BDSM is unnatural and a deviant behaviour. Of course it has to be practiced with consent and safety precautions," Rahul told Mirror.

We are so glad that finally these 'kinksters', who are often judged and labelled as perverts are coming out of their closets and those anonymous chat rooms and meeting people with similar interests.

And it's not just happening in Bengaluru. Various BDSM communites such as the Kinky Collective in New Delhi, Kolkata and the Naughty India group in Mumbai--have also emerged and aim to bring the BDSM lovers together.

In fact, they have a strong online presence as well. The Kinky Collective has an active presence on social media websites like Twitter and Facebook with thousands of followers.

We feel that it's time to move past judgments and let people be. These groups are truly breaking stereotypes and till the time they are safe, what's the harm?
