Study says we end up dating the same type of douchebag over and over again. I'm the proof!

Unfortunately, my foolishness has a set pattern, and so does their douchebaggery.

You know whenever I befriend a guy my conversations usually start with "So, what do you do for a living?" and "What's your favourite colour?". Gradually, as attraction and feelings set in, the questions become more pertinent, and the guys always asks me: "Hey, what kind of men do you like?" To which my usual response is, "I really don't have a type. If I click with someone, I click with someone, as simple as that".

Turns out, I was living a lie and that it isn't as simple as I thought it to be.

What Brought Me To This Conclusion? A Hard-Hitting Research

According to a study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology of the American Psychological Association, all of us have a type. Apparently, the people we date share many similarities--both physically and personality-wise.

In the beginning, I really didn't think so, but when I analyzed my past relationships, I realized that those researchers weren't lying pieces of shit like my exes and that their claim is true.

The Research Brought Me Closer To Chetan Bhagat

Because just like him, my three boyfriends were the three mistakes of my life. Sorry, three similar mistakes of my life, I mean.

When I fell in love for the very first time, I mistook the guy's exceptional communication skills for his confidence and gave him my heart. What happened next? I just found out that his confidence was just masking his depression and other issues in life. When I met douchebag number 2, I was again attracted to his Wren-&-Martin-level grammar and manly voice. Turns out, he was Pankaj Udhaas too in life. But I didn't just stop there because how could I not complete my hat trick? The third guy was the baap of them all. He was miserable and sad about everything in life, including the colour of the sky and existence of them butterflies.

So unfortunately, despite being a happy, positive person--depressed souls are my type. Dammit!

Sometimes, Pursuing Your Interests Equals Digging Your Own Grave

Post three major heartbreaks, I thought pursuing my hobbies and interests to get over the bullshit was a good idea. Well, turns out that I was actually digging my own grave.

I'll tell you why I think it can backfire: It increases the likelihood of you finding another douche, who happens to have similar interests as you, and unfortunately, similar traits as your ex.

After my break-up with my first boyfriend, who ate, slept, and lived on protein powder, glutamine, amino, (wish I could add cow dung and rat poison to his list of endless supplements) I decided to get back to my workouts for that revenge body. Except, it almost seemed like the second guy I fell for was a well-collaborated revenge on me by these two trait-twins. Commonality?  Both of them were epitomes of narcissism.

Imagine dating two self-absorbed guys back-to-back, who would be more interested in looking at their own biceps, triceps, deltoids, pectoral muscles, hamstrings, veins, blah, blah, blah,blah... instead of ever noticing my red lipstick or that hot dress. Damn! It shatters your faith in your own good looks, you know?

These Researchers Have Taught Me More About Life Than My Failed Relationships
Now that I know I am like honey for the depressed bees out there, the first question I'll ask any guy, who even remotely impresses me is going to be about his depression and gym life. Because you know what? Ruining yourself the same way again and again has become boring. I need new ways. Just kidding! If only we had control over matters of the heart. Tsk Tsk.
