Turns out Indians prefer flavours in their ice creams, and well, condoms too. Here's proof

Because everything that's flavoured is better--even condoms.

It all began in the 1960s, when the Indian Government introduced the affordable 'Nirodh' rubbers owing to a huge population of around 470 million at the time, which by the way was estimated to become the double of that number in the next three decades. That's exactly when condoms came into the picture as a part of family planning and well, much-needed population control.

However, it seems like what started as a step towards controlling the ironic situation of the ever-increasing population in an otherwise sex-shy country, has an all new meaning now. And trust us, that's adding even more irony to it. Yes, apparently there's more to condoms than birth control and protection.

According to a report published in Quartz, people in our country prefer using flavoured condoms to regular, non-flavoured rubbers. In fact, condom brand managers that the news website contacted estimated that flavoured condoms account for around 50% to70% of India's Rs 1,000 crore-Rs1,300 crore condom market.

"Flavours weren't big, say five-to-six years ago. Now, they dominate the segment, so much so that 46-47% of all condoms sold in India are flavoured," Vishal Vyas, general manager of marketing at Skore Condoms told Quartz.

Blame it on the excitement factor associated with experimenting in bed or on the evolving attitudes of youngsters, who are now openly embracing sex as an act of pleasure rather than letting it be 'dirty' hidden secret--ditching regular condoms for chocolate, strawberry, butterscotch, amongst other unique flavours--is definitely the new cool.

All those adventurous condom advertisements featuring popular celebrities like Sunny Leone and Ranveer Singh are proof of this change in mindset. "This is the third phase of evolution, where condom makers want to be seen as 'cool,' as opposed to the 60s and 90s when they were meant for awareness and pleasure (respectively)," said Hari Desikan, Chennai branch head of advertising agency that handles advertising mandate for Moods brand of condoms.

Moreover, there's no denying the fact that the taste and smell of the flavoured condoms makes oral sex much better. We are sure that the ladies would agree. What say?
