Ahh... the Delhi winter. After a gruelling summer, what's not to love about it? Post Diwali, the chill starts to set in and so does the wedding season. Everything is lit up, it's a beautiful time--especially for romance and well.. something more.

Except, turns out this chill in the air may not exactly bring you and your partner closer--thanks to the toxic smog, which according to experts can ruin the libidos of a lot of otherwise virile men and fertile women.

"There are a lot of heavy metals in the air, which directly affect the hormones in the body. In India, 15% of the male population is infertile, a rate greater than that of female," said Sagarika Agarwal, fertility expert associated with city based Indira IVF Hospital.

"Particulate matter carries with it polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, lead cadmium, and mercury which can possibly affect the hormonal balance and be toxic to sperm," Agarwal said.

According to Agarwal, reduction in testosterone or oestrogen level may lead to low desire for intercourse, thereby hindering the sex life.

So how can you keep your sex drive up and roaring? Well, turns out multi-layer filter masks can help. If you're thinking whether those bulky masks are worth the effort for you and your effort, you may want to keep reading.

According to Arvind Vaid, a Delhi-based IVF expert, breathing too much of pollution leads to a higher concentration of free radicals in the blood. That causes a lower sperm quality even in the most fertile of men.

"The pollution level in Delhi right now is enough to cause infertility in men and increases the chances of miscarriage in women," said Vaid.

Yup, that's right: Delhi's smog is not only enough to kill your mojo in the bed right now, but also put you at the risk of infertility. So masks up!
