Nursing a broken heart can be a little tricky--especially when you have invested your time, your patience, and made someone the centre of your universe. With all the memories rushing back like a tidal wave, while you try to be the adult you are expected to be, getting out of a breakup can take a toll. My last breakup wasn't a pretty one at all, but hey, which one is?

The thing about breakups is you can't get over one quickly. What you can do, however, is distract yourself so that the good and bad doesn't keep playing in your head like Netflix marathon--and you can be a fully-functioning adult, even when you don't want to.

Here are the 5 very real ways with which you can maintain your sanity and deal with your broken heart:

1. Start Playing Candy Crush, Temple Run and All Those Addictive Games
If you already have a favourite game that you have been neglecting, it's time to get back to it again. If you're a newbie--then start now. Any game--Temple Run, Candy Crush, Subway Surfer and so on--that can help you forget everything around you will help.

2. Watch Stand-up Comics Each Time You Feel You're Going Back to Your Emotional Pit
Watching comedy, even when you don't feel like it, can be really helpful. You can start with AIB, Pretentious Movie Reviews, Jim Jefferies, Jeff  Dunham, Frankie Boyle, Jimmy Carr, among others. Even if the sketch you're watching is completely mindless--as long as it distracts you, it's good.

3. Hang Out With Your Friends Every Chance You Get
If going back home equals to you crying your eyes out, grab hold of a friend and hang out with them instead. It won't lessen your pain, and in all likelihood once you get back to your normal office-home-office routine, the urge to cry will return with a vengance--but in the meantine you've created new memories, and vented out feelings. Now that always helps.

4. Work Out Like a Maniac
Run like the wind or lift like a beast--the idea of channelize your anger and frustation into something constructive. And if the process, you get a smokin' hot revenge bod--why not?

5. Shop Till You Drop
Shopping is the ultimate therapy--so what if it's not cheaper than the real one. Hit the mall, and treat yourself to all the things you feel you deserve for putting up with love and its side effects. If the state of your bank account makes you feel guilty later on, remember: it was worth it! You may not have love now, but you have a whole new wardrobe.
