I swear, had it not been for social media, forgetting my exes would have been a lot more easy. It's one of those inventions that has actually made the world a smaller place. I mean I don't fear running into my exes in real life as much as spotting their picture on my timeline--especially after a nasty break-up. With the proliferation of the Internet, a conversation with your ex--no matter how much you avoid it--is bound to happen at some point or the other. So here are a few nuggets of interactions you just can't ignore having with your ex on social media:

Liking Their 10 Week Old Picture on Social Media

I am not talking about parting on happy terms and liking their picture out of joy that they're doing well. I am talking about the grand mistake you make while scrolling through your phone, and then accidentally double clicking something on their Instagram. Oh, oh, ooh! There's absolutely no explanation for this, but the fact that you've been snooping around their Insta feed. And if you have a thirsty ex, expect a one or many likes in lieu of the 'favour' you accidentally bestowed. The embarrassment though. Jeez!

When LinkedIn Tells You They Viewed Your Profile

You have no idea! The number of times a particular ex's name has popped up in the visitors' list on this platform--it's not even funny. Back when things ended, we mutually unfriended each other everywhere--all in the hopes of making the break-up a little more bearable. Now, however, every time his name pops up on LinkedIn, I can't help but crack up. It does act as a note of caution though--never look up an ex on LinkedIn. Ever.

When You Stalk The Person They're Currently Dating

I mean, this is one of the most done-to-death things on social media. Obviously you know who your ex is dating and everything about the person they are dating! It is the code of every heartbroken lover there is--you stalk the person whose life your ex is currently ruining.

Awkward 'Memories' That Pop up on Facebook

I don't know whether to call it painful or plain annoying. Imagine going through an absolutely fine day, unless Facebook memories decides to tell you how on that day you met your ex. It gets all the more awkward when the said ex decides to 'like' it. I mean, dude, it's no longer something worth cherishing. What even, man?

Spotting Them on Tinder

Well, well, well...look what the cat dragged in. There seems to be some law of the universe at work because the ex you loathe the most is the one you'll see on dating apps. But then it shouldn't shock you because that's the place he can make a fool out of people. Tinder mostly works on first impressions and that's the only one they're capable of making so...

Unfollowing Your Ex is an Interaction Too

In fact, unfollowing someone after a break-up is the most therapeutic interaction you could possibly engage in. Otherwise, chances are high you'll be sucked into the temptation of looking into their social media account and succumb to the pain it brings. Break-ups are about moving on, so get your 'unfollow' game on point, girl.
