You talk desi, walk desi, laugh desi,  eat desi. Then why are you pick international travel destinations when you've got plethora of local places to explore? Wait, before you mistake me for being a mascot of Baba Ramdev's Patanjali travel agency (which by the way is non-existent till now, and I hope I am not giving any ideas here), you really need to know why going local for your travels is not such a bad idea after all.

1. Local is Spontaneous, Local is Get-At-Able

Just the thought of getting on a 20-hour flight to the other corner of the world, to see snow-clad mountains and sandy beaches (which by the way happen to exist in our very own country too) gives me a jet-lag. How about taking a two-something hours flight to Kashmir or Goa instead? Sounds way more relaxing, doesn't it? No one-year of advance planning, no running around for visa and tedious paperwork. Just pack your bags and get on the next flight, train, bus, car, and reach your destination.

2. Because "Welcum Turist, We Spik Englis"

Aah! Anywhere you go, you are bound to find some very peculiar, funny things. After all what's the joy of going to some far-flung destination full of strangers compared to the comfort of discovering your homeland filled with some very interesting fellow countrymen? Interacting with your own people, never feeling like an outsider, no currency conversion hassles-pure satisfaction of discovering your home country.

3. They Don't Call it "Incredible India" for No Reason

If "Kuch din toh guzaaro Gujrat mei" in Senior Bachchan's baritone voice wasn't enough to convince you to go the domestic way already, here is reiterating the fact that India is a diverse country with a lot to explore-the mouth-watering food, the rich cultural diversity, the warm hospitality, and the breathtaking scenic beauty.

4. Your Wallet Will Thank You for It

Easy and affordable. what more can you ask for? Photo:Shutterstock/Indiapictures Easy and affordable. what more can you ask for? Photo:Shutterstock/Indiapictures

The idea of spending a five-figure sum on a flight and the burden of earning in rupees and spending in dollars already sucks out half the fun out of a vacation. It's tedious to get around the whole currency exchange situation, and shell out your hard-earned money.

5. And So Will Modiji, Mitron (Just Kidding)

Now obviously, you don't have to do it for Modi, but for the two 'Es'-Economy and Environment. You may not be able to get into charity all the time but philanthropy is still a thing, right? Then why not let your fellow country mates reap high economic benefits of your domestic vacation? Oh! And did I mention how your small contribution to carbon footprint reduction by avoiding long flights can help the cause of global warming. A vacation for the greater good maybe? Now who would have thought of that?
