So, you think I can't make financial decisions because I am a woman? Here's some news for you

What does my gender got to do with my decision-making abilities?

Yes, I am a woman. But what makes you think that I suck at managing finances? Is it my lady parts--you think--that stop me from putting two and two together or is it just the casual sexist attitude of yours that makes you assume that women are no good when it comes to money matters? Recently, I have been getting a lot of well-meaning advice from some concerned male friends, who think I should hand over the 'household purse' to my husband. After all, he's a man and that makes him a pro, right?

Well, that's absolute bullocks. FYI, here's what I have to say to people who think the same:

Women Are Naturally Better With Money Than Men

Yup, it's true. And I am not saying this to prove a point. In fact, I have a study backing my claim.

According to a report published in the Time magazine, "Women are naturally better than men when it comes to matters of investing. Women have long-term goals, and they stick with the plan. They focus on saving and investing for retirement or a kid's college fund, not on outsmarting the market."

In fact, "At least 80% of women are either the primary decision makers in the household or share equal decision-making responsibilities, with 40% handling the day-to-day budgeting and spending," states a study published in the Financial Post.

Ha! In your face.

I Have Managed My Finances Without Going Bankrupt

Okay, so let me tell you this: I have lived on my own for more than 10 years, without any sort of financial help from my family. So, it was all up to me to invest, save, or spend my salary (or whatever little I make in the name of it). Anyhow, over the years I have managed my finances quite well without going bankrupt or piling on credit without any means to return it.

You see, my vagina has no control over my ability to make sane financial decisions! And with yesteryear as proof, I can safely say…

Gender Has Got Nothing To Do With It

Honestly, it's just a stereotype that claims women are not good financial decision makers. Just like it says women are not good drivers. The ability to manage finances is not governed by gender. At least, it doesn't automatically translate into a total slob when it comes to money.

Moreover, I feel we really need to stop dumbing women down. Yes, it takes a lot of calculations and analysis to take good financial decisions, but what makes you think women are not capable of it?

Get over it, people. Really.
