Let's admit it: we all have been at the receiving end of cyber bulling one time or another. From nasty, sexist comments to the more threatening posts--our social media profiles have seen it all. However, while most of choose to keep mum, US-based Indian girl Taruna Aswani decided to take her bully down, and how!

All was well until 26-year-old Taruna received some emails from an unknown source. The sender, who also hinted at knowing her personally, threatened to release her private pictures and videos, which he got hold of by hacking into her Google Cloud backup. The pervert then blackmailed her, asking her to mail a video 'to excite him'.

Taruna could have ignored this incident; or worse yet, she could have given it to her bully's demand to save herself from the scandal and embarrassment. Instead, she decided to shut down the man and seek justice, while also letting the world know what was going on.

Attaching screenshots of the email, Taruna drafted a heartfelt post addressing her family and friends and published it on her Facebook page. Within hours, the post went viral and her feed was flooded with messages commending her bravery.

In an exclusive interview to India Today, Taruna confessed that she was in dilemma over reporting the issue, so she consulted her parents and boyfriend, who supported her and asked her to go ahead.

"It is not wrong to keep private photos and videos on your phone, those who hack into your private data are the ones who are wrong, they are the criminals, do not ever cower to such people. I am fighting for all those who have faced cyber harassment", she said.

Taruna also went on to mention that she had no choice but to make the threat public, since there was no action taken despite the police compliant.

According to a report published in Business Standard, 81% of Indian respondents between eight and 16 that are active on social media, 22% have reported being bullied online during a survey conducted by "Teens, Tweens and Technology Study 2015".

Keeping in mind the horrifying statistics, we must applaud Taruna Aswani for not letting her case become just another addition to the growing numbers.
