For most of us, chocolate is our best friend when Aunty Flo comes calling. The pain, the cramps, the mood swings-it all seems fade away when you pop that piece of rich, creamy chocolate in your mouth. Of course the discomfort comes raging back almost immediately once you've devoured the chocolate and all that's left is the wrapper.

But what if your favourite contraband could actually help with that period pain? What if the benefits of chocolate extended beyond your taste buds, and worked on those nasty cramps to make you more comfortable?

If you're wondering how you can reach the alternate universe where this is possible, here's some news: a Swiss chocolatier has created actually crafted a chocolate that claims to alleviate period pain.

The brainchild of chocolatier Marc Windmer, the chocolate is called Frauenmond-and it is crafted with 17 Swiss herbs and 60% cocoa.

Now of course, what troubles us most about this new development in the realm of menstruation-a hell strictly made for women-is that the creator of this sweet relief is actually a man. But fraying into this bloody territory doesn't seem to bother Windmer, who in an interview to a local Swiss newspaper said: "Of course, men can also eat the chocolate."

Frauenmond literally translates to women's moon, and according to Windmer the Swiss herbs ease menstrual cramps, while the chocolate boosts serotonin levels in the body. Serotonin is the hormone responsible for your mood, and a deficit of it in the body is actually linked to depression.

But before you get a little too happy and search the Internet for ways to get cartons of this remedial deliciousness delivered to your doorstep, here's some bad news: a 100 grams of Frauenmond will cost you about 10 pounds (that's about Rs 830 for one tiny bar of chocolate).

Moreover, Windmer himself admits that Frauenmond is in no way a replacement for the painkillers that keep you going while you're on your period.

So while we wait for this miracle chocolate that can probably make our periods a little more bearable to reach the Indian market, here's hoping you never run out of ibuprofen.
