This short film is breaking all the usual stereotypes about being a lesbian

Whether you live in a homophobic society or a society where everyone is treated equally, you can't escape stereotypes.
Categorization (and stereotyping) seems to be fundamental to human nature, as it makes the world seem more predictable.
However, stereotypes are often offensive-especially when they pertain to minority communities.

The LGBTQ community is no different. Here, you'll find various stereotypes used not only by the people who fall on the rainbow spectrum, but also by the straight allies who rally for them.

The Gaysi Family, which is an online portal for LGBTQ people in the South Asian Subcontinent, has released a short film titled Rainbow In A Brown World to debunk all the stereotypes surrounding lesbian women. The animated film, which uses humour to address ignorance and prejudice, tells the story of Aarti, who answers absurd questions about sexuality posed by different people.

The film, made by Rhea Dease who's an animation graduate from National Institute of Design, shows the protagonist answering questions ranging from "How do you turn gay?" to "Do lesbians even exist in India?"

The three-minute film has tried to show what it means to be in love when you're queer, and live in a society that is plagued by preconceived notions about homosexuality. It also tries to do away with the idea that gender and sexuality is not interlinked.

In the era of Section 377, when most of the people are either closeted or ostracized by the society, films like this one are bringing the 'taboo' topic of homosexuality to the fore. They send a rather important message to the world: that people from the LGBTQ community are in fact just like anyone else. A person's sexuality doesn't define who they are, a person is more than who they are attracted to or are in love with.
