The cardinal rules of alcohol so that you don't throw up when drunk

Because alcohol can make you have fun, but it's just as capable of ruining it too.

So you're all excited for that get together with friends after a very long time. Maybe it's a reunion of sorts, maybe it's a celebration, maybe it's your BFF's birthday, or maybe it's your own. But no matter how big the occasion is, trust us, it's not worth going overboard with alcohol, so much so, that you end up passing out in a pool of vomit post consuming a few drinks.

Here's how you can save your body from the damage caused by excess alcohol and yourself from the embarrassment of totally losing your senses when drunk. And most importantly of puking in every nook and corner of the club, your car, and your house: Prep Up Because Prevention Is Better Than CureWhen you know you've got to head out for that night out, it's best to prep your body first. Start with eating around an hour before you start gulping those shots down your throat. It's simple ladies, alcohol has the tendency to get into your blood in a jiffy as it doesn't exactly have to go through the complicated digestion process. Yet, 80% of it is absorbed from your small intestines. Now imagine, if there's no food there, the absorption will be even quicker, intoxicating you in no time and leaving your head spinning and stomach heaving. In fact, if you are tired, avoid drinking alcohol as it is a depressant, that will slow you down further. In that tired state, your body will have to work harder to metabolize the alcohol. So no, those drinks won't help you relax or sleep. They will only make you regret your decision of having them post a hectic day.

Know Your Limits, And Well--Honour ThemFiguring out your alcohol-handling capacity can be a tad-bit tricky and unfortunately comes with a lot of trial and error.

Even though according to the Alcohol Consumption Factsheet published by Institute of Alcohol Studies in 2013, women should not go beyond 3 units of alcohol at once. But the key is to drink slowly during the trial period, that is at the rate of say, one drink an hour since it takes your liver one hour to process each unit of alcohol you throw at it.

In case, you go overboard, don't forget to take lessons from the errors. And once you know your limits, avoid going beyond them at any cost.

Yes, having to monitor yourself even when you're in the party mood sucks, but landing in a pool of vomit if you let loose is worse. So just keep that in mind and counter each dehydrating drink with a glass of water for some damage control. It won't just keep you hydrated and slow down the intoxication process, but will also spare you the horror of a horrible hangover the next day.

In fact, cash in on the cooling powers of ice by adding ice cubes to your drink as it can counter the heat that alcohol produces in your body and can help you stay cool.

Also, you need to keep the mixing rules in mind. Firstly, avoid mixing up different kinds of alcohol in one night. And secondly, do not use energy drink mixers to enhance the taste of the alcohol unless you really want to end up in the bathroom puking out all of it.

Caffeine present in these energy drinks is a stimulant, unlike alcohol which is a depressant. When combined together, they can leave your body confused and you will end up getting more drunk than you thought.

Yes, you feel like dancing to the beats, but remember, the DJ's not going home any time soon and hence, avoid dancing right after that shot of alcohol as jumping up and down with alcohol in your stomach, will only make your insides burn.
