Five things you didn't know Saina Nehwal and Kalpana Chawla have in common

They are an inspiration today--and everyday.

When we think of women's badminton, one of the first Indian names that comes to our mind is Saina Nehwal. Similarly, when you talk women in space, you can't help but remember Kalpana Chawla.

Both these women have made us and India proud. They have not only set exemplary examples for young girls all over the world, but have left a mark in our hearts.

Despite their different fields, these two amazing daughters of India have a lot in common. Here are five similarities between these two that you probably didn't know about.

They Both Were Born In Haryana

Saina Nehwal was born in Hisar, Haryana. The city may now be identified as a counter-magnet city for the National Capital Region, but in the 90s it was very different. The badminton ace completed her few years of schooling at Campus School CCS HAU, Hisar, before moving to Hyderabad.

Kalpana Chawla was born in the city of Karnal. Although the city was earlier a part of Punjab, but now falls in Haryana. The astronaut graduated from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering.

They Prove That Grit Will Help You Achieve Success
Being a woman is difficult in our country, it becomes more difficult if you are a woman in sports. But, Nehwal has not only been ranked number 1 in the world, but has also done us proud in the Olympics.

Chawla went on to complete her Master of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Texas. She then joined he NASA Ames Research Center, before flying her first space shuttle in 1997.

They Both Created History

Nehwal is the first Indian woman to win a medal in Badminton at the 2012 Olympic Games. Later in 2015, she became the first Indian woman to secure number 1 position in world rankings.

Similarly, the astronaut was the first Indian woman to go to space. In 1997, she flew on Space Shuttle Columbia STS-87 as a mission specialist and a primary robotic arm operator.

It's All About The Game For These Two

They may have completely different dreams, but their passion for their respective fields binds them together. Both Chawla and Nehwal have redefined femininity and the way our society looks at women.

They Share The Same Birthday

They were both born on March 17. While Nehwal was born in 1990, Chawla was born in the year 1961.
