5 'manly' things women should do more often in public without giving a damn

Dear Indian society, leave 'em women alone.

Women from their childhood have been asked to present themselves a certain way. There are different rules set by the Indian society that makes a woman ladylike or otherwise. Be it the way they should sit or avoiding scratching their crotch in public, some things are a strict no-no if you are a woman.

However, if you look at men, mannerless as they are, are never bothered about following any of these ridiculous rules. Because they are men and they can be as "manly" as they can be. We wonder who gets to decide what's manly and what's not?

Here are five things we wish women would start doing in public.

Smoking In Public Without Being Worried About Labels Like Unsanskaari
Somehow, when it comes to women, everything is equated with sanskaar. And if you have to survive as a woman in the Indian society, you have to follow them rules to make sure that Indian culture drips from your actions.

Take smoking for example. While smoking is injurious to both men and women, it's the latter gets judged for even being seen with a cigarette--even if it's an unlit one. God forbid if you are a woman and you go to the local panwaari to buy that nicotine stick. You'll get to hear ever sort of comment imagined--Ladki hoke cigarette peeti ho? being the most common one. You might even be called a slut for taking drag because obviously that shows how available you are for sex, right?

Going To The Liquor Store To Buy Alcohol

According to our society, a woman is supposed to have high morals and values, and more self-control as compared to a man. So, if you are going alone, or with your girl gang to buy alcohol, you'll invite so much judgement that you'll wonder if you are in a court or at a liquor store.

Not just men, even women, abhor other women buying alcohol. Well, you may have already guessed the reason behind this. If you haven't, let us spell it out for you--it's the sanskaar.

Scratching Your Crotch In Front Of People
Well ladies, if you shave your pubes, you would know the itch that comes along with it. When that stubble starts growing, all you want to do is scratch your crotch away to glory. But can you without feeling uncomfortable?

But look at men. They scratch their crotch, to everyone's dismay, quite openly in public. As if one's crotch is just another body part--it actually is. But then again, it's not ladylike, you see?

Burping Out Loud After A Hearty Meal
Remember in the movie Queen, when Kangana Ranaut's character Rani was amused by the fact that Lisa Haydon's character could burp so casually? That was not just reel life, that's in real life as well. Burping completely robs you off your ladylike demeanour, while for men it is just as normal as peeing in public!

Spreading Your Legs While Sitting
How many times have you wished for men to stop spreading their legs while sitting in the metro? Imagine the kind of space it would save for other people standing--a lot of space.

There's even a word for it--manspreading. Because it's always the men who are allowed, by societal standards, to sit like that.

But if you look at women, they are always sitting with one leg crossed over the other, even if it's very comfortable. So, while women try to glue their knees together, men spread like raita. If only the society stepped back a little and let us women live in peace.
