Why I am buying my own box of chocolates, today and every day

I do my own laundry, pay my own bills, take care of my own house--so why can't I buy my own chocolates?

For someone like me, who has always hated the whole concept of Valentine's Day, days like Chocolate Day can be a little cringeworthy. No, no, I don't hate chocolate! How can one hate the true love of their life?

The thing is we somehow trivialize the importance of chocolate in our lives by celebrating it just once a year. Doesn't it deserves our respect every single day? Actually make it every single hour!

While the pressure of the V-Day mounts on people, single or otherwise, let me tell you why I am buying my own box of chocolates--today and every day.

For one, I don't need one particular day to go gaga over chocolates. Guess what? Every day is chocolate day for me.

After a hard day at work (trust me some days are harder than the rest) I buy myself a bar of that brown deliciousness. I munch on it on my way home, I munch on it after I have reached home--hell I munch on it when I'm in bed. And if your OCD is triggered by crumbs, let me let you in on a little secret: crumbs are snacks for later!

All I'm trying to say is a chocolate is a gift that keeps on giving. And I like giving this gift to myself every single day. You know my favorite character from our childhood classic Charlie And The Chocolate Factory is the guy who was a glutton and couldn't stop having chocolates. While all my friends were fan of Charlie and how wonderful he was--I was obsessed with Augustus Gloop. Even when he was nearly turned into a chocolate covered strawberry fudge, I wanted to be just like him!

Also what is with this need for someone to buy me chocolates? I am a strong independent woman; I do my own laundry, I pay my bills, and I even take care of my house (with some help from my mom). So, why can't I buy my own chocolate? Why do I have to wait for someone on a "special" day to buy me something that I love so dearly? My love for chocolate surpasses my love for a partner. Not that I would mind having someone love me, but that bar of chocolate has loved me no matter what.

Chocolates are everything, literally. And why wouldn't they be? They make me happy. Also it is a friend in need. It has been there with me ever since my mom bought me my first bar of Dairy Milk. Since then, it has stood the test of time, supporting me whenever I needed, even when I didn't!

I can't count the numerous cold nights a nice cup of hot chocolate kept me warm, or made me forget about all the stress.

You know the best part though? It has also helped me deal with heartbreaks. Before you say that my obsession for chocolates has something to do with my love life (or lack thereof), let me tell you that you're wrong. It's got nothing to with the fact that I'm single af! Umm, maybe just a little bit.

And apart from all the gooey deliciousness, it also has health benefits. It aids in weight loss, reduces stress, and helps you have a good skin. Told you chocolates are a gift!

So ladies, before you wait for someone else to buy you something as indispensable as chocolate, go to a store and buy one for yourself. Because as you taste the liberation in your first bite, you'll understand what I have been babbling on for so long.

I am not saying that you don't take that box from your boyfriend when he gives it to you, all wrapped in pink! What I'm saying is know that you are very well capable of doing so yourself.

So while the world succumbs to the pressure of this horrendous week, with ridiculous days, gift yourself a chocolate. You won't regret it!
