Do you see the picture above? Don't they just look like five very hot young boys? But, wait till you hear this--they are actually five girls. That's right. You can go and look at the picture more carefully.

Still don't believe us? Well, these girls belong to a band in China, who came into the limelight in November after a year-long talent search. However, they have just revealed their true gender only now.

The band, which goes by the name of Acrush, is made up of five women in their twenties, who all sport edgy, short hairstyles and dress like a bunch of boys.  Their inspiration comes from another Chinese star Li Yuchun, who has been dubbed the mother of the unisex look in the country.

All other girl bands in China comply to the typical feminine appearance, which includes knee socks, pony tails and other symbols of girlish cuteness.

In an interview to Quartz,  the band's agent Zhou Xiaobai said "The letter "A" in the name stands for Adonis, a god in Greek mythology known as the epitome of male beauty".

Zhou added that Acrush's distinguishing concept is that of a group advocating freedom, and not bounded by frames.

According to the agent, China's talent scouts have been talking about forming an androgynous band, but few women wanted to take the risk of joining it. After a search that began in March 2016, they were able to narrow down to 10 candidates. It was then that the band was finally formed and had Lu Keran, An Junxi, Peng Xichen, Min Junqian and Lin Fan as its members after training for two months.

Zhou said that they specifically avoided using the word "boy" or "girl" when introducing the group to public. Instead, they have carefully chosen a gender-free phrase, meishaonian, or "handsome youths" in its place.

The funny thing is that the band has predominantly female fans, who have termed the band members as "husbands", a term that is usually reserved for male popstars like Justin Bieber.

The band is definitely taking an intentional step away from hyper-femininity, while blurring the lines that segregate the two genders. They might not be guys, but we just can't stop drooling over them!
