It's hard to believe that the Nimrat Kaur-starrer The Test Case is actually produced by Ekta Kapoor

There's definitely more to Ekta Kapoor than her 'K' serials and this Nimrat Kaur-starrer web-series is the proof.

What is the first thing that crosses your mind when you hear the name Ekta Kapoor? If you mentioned 'K' serials, we don't blame you. After all, that's what we saw while growing up.However, she seems to have turned a new leaf in terms of the kind of content that she is currently churning out for the Indian audience. Don't believe us?

Well, the 41-year-old producer has ventured out in to the world of web-series with Balaji Telefilms' AltBalaji. Kapoor, who recently gave a gay twist to William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, has now given us The Test Case--a story about a woman's journey in the armed forces. That's right, a woman in the Indian Army. Pretty interesting, isn't it?

Apart from the plot, you know what is the most exciting part about this series? Its stars. Apart from the very talented Nimrat Kaur, who's the protagonist, the series also stars Atul Kulkarni, Rahul Dev, and Rituraj among others. Even Juhi Chawla plays a cameo role as India's defence minister in the series.

It's surprising to see that Kapoor can actually produce something other than her usual saas-bahu crap. Remember how illogical her serials seemed even when we were kids--when certain characters didn't die or when they died they came back with a plastic surgery.

But The Test Case has surely given us new hopes. What intrigued us was the way Kapoor has highlighted the protagonist's struggles as a woman in the army--especially because we didn't know she could. All her past serials have always been more about the drama and less about real issues.

While most of her serials have shown women as damsels in distress, Kaur's portrayal of Captain Shikha Sharma is a welcome change for sure. She is shown as a person who isn't afraid to undergo rigorous training and remains unnerved by the dominating men around her.

The first episode, which was released recently, portrayed how women find it extremely hard to make their way out in the armed forces. We still can't decide what impressed us more; the direction by Nagesh Kukunoor, the actors, Kapoor as the producer, or The Lunchbox actress.

The series is going to focus on how standing and fighting for our country is still considered a man's job. It will highlight how being in the army is still considered a man's prerogative and what it takes for a woman to be there.

We can't wait to watch what else Kapoor has in store for us in this particular web-series. Needless to say, this episode has surely gotten us hooked.
