Being informed is good. But, a barrage of information 24x7 can be exhausting. Seriously, your brain can do some great wonders, but hoarding everything is overwhelming and often stressful. Also, don't you wish you could just take a break from the mendacity of life and let your senses rest in peace?

Well, don't be too hard on yourself, if all you wish for these days is some solace away from the invariable humdrum. This doesn't make you a quitter, but just human. And renowned novelist Pico Iyer agrees with it.

At the India Today Conclave 2017, Iyer, who is celebrated for writing a bestseller like The Art of Stillness, spoke about the task and importance of finding stillness in our overly technological lives.

"The epidemic of the 21st century is stress. It's the detrimental neurological effect of living in a digital world characterized by the bombardment of so much information, misinformation, disinformation, false news," he said.

And we agree with him. The need to be updated at all times and the fear of missing out on information can be tiring and stressful. But, this comes with dangers of its own. For instance, the rise of condition called nomophobia is a proof enough. For the uninitiated, nomophobia is a condition where one is terrified of being without one's phones.

Did you know that a couple of years ago in China, 400 rescue camps were set-up, where children were taken away from their mobile phones to recover from their addiction?

If this makes you wonder about your own sanity, then worry not, Iyer has some tips for you to achieve ultimate tranquility. And don't worry; you don't need to go to the Himalayas to achieve nirvana.

Here's what he suggests:

Find Solace In Life
"Only by going nowhere do you get anywhere," said Iyer at the conclave. Of course, it makes sense. You don't necessarily need to spend big bucks on vacation to get away from your busy life. If you have a spot, where you can just step in and feel calm, that will do the trick for you.

Digital Detox
"Turn off your cell phone, not look at your emails and tell your boss you're out of touch for the next 42 hours. This is especially important for the 20 minutes before you sleep and the 20 minutes after you wake up," he advised.

Ladies, you should definitely pay heed to this.

Three Per Cent Rule
Probably the easiest, but the most effective of all. All you need to do is spend three per cent of your day in silence and alone. This will make the remaining 97% more productive. That's a good one for sure.

Take Up a Hobby
Sailing through life without a passion can be both boring and sad. After all, you need something you love in life to distance yourself from daily stress. So, play golf, a music instrument, do whatever it is that you want. If you don't, you will lose all perspective.
