Hair is considered to be a woman's pride. Why wouldn't it be? It involves painstaking measures to grow it out, style it, and accessorize it. But what happens when that pride becomes a source of torture for someone? No we aren't talking about hair woes. We, rather the ad, is talking about something really serious.

A Bangladeshi hair oil company, Jui, has turned its advertisement into a powerful conversation about domestic violence using hair as its subject. Yes. Before you start imagining all different scenarios, let us tell you about the ad more.

The two-minute long video opens up with a woman sitting at a hair salon for her appointment. When the stylist asks her what she wants to be done to her hair, the woman asks it to be cut short.

Watch: This poem by an Indian grabs patriarchy by the penis, and we are so very glad!

The hairdresser gives her a trim but the woman still wants it shorter. Surprised at her request, the stylist hesitantly chops off the length. With a stoic look on her face, the woman reaches out to check her hair again and is still not satisfied with it. Only this time, she breaks down and confesses that she wants her hair so short that it can't be pulled at anymore.

The ad shows the viewer the bitter truth about the woman's struggle with domestic violence. The message in the end "Hair, the pride of a woman, let it never be the reason for her weakness" has a haunting effect.

According to the advertisement, every 80 out of 100 women face violence in some form or another in their lives. They conclude saying, "If you ever face something similar, speak up. Precautions don't help as much as a loud voice does."

Domestic violence is very real and this ad has tried to start a discourse on it. It tells us why women need to raise their voice and there needs to be a safe space for them to do so. Because, many victims let it slide as a 'family matter' or even a necessary part of life and the silence pervades around domestic violence.

We are glad that this beauty brand has taken up upon itself to spread the message about speaking up against violence.
