6 vegetarian dinners as power-packed with protein as chicken breast

Because being vegetarian doesn't mean giving up on protein.

Yes, non-vegetarians love chicken. So much so that they often boast of not just the taste of the juicy, melt-in-the-mouth chicken, but also of the protein-packed nutrition that they get from eating it. After all, ditching the carbohydrate loaded chapattis and rice for the protein-rich boiled chicken breast has its own weight-loss perks.

While these claims aren't exactly false, it doesn't mean that vegetarians can't fulfill their quota of protein without breaking their resolve of staying vegan.

These 6 easy-to-cook dinners are just as protein-rich as the non-vegetarian platter:

Lentil Soup

To prepare lentil soup, all you've got to do is sauté your favourite vegetables and some garlic paste in olive oil. Add tomato puree and lentils, and allow the mixture to simmer on low heat till it's cooked. Don't forget to add salt, spices, and some oregano for flavour. And your protein-packed dinner will be ready.

Broccoli Salad

You know how protein-rich broccoli and Greek yogurt are. Cash in on their nutritional value by tossing steamed broccoli and other protein-packed ingredients such as cottage cheese, steamed beans, and lentils in Greek yogurt and garnish with salt and your favourite herbs for a protein-packed and a very satiating salad.

Quinoa Pulao

We all love the good-old rice pulao. Keeping the recipe intact, all you've got to do is to replace rice with steamed quinoa and you're sorted.

Baked Beans

Cash in on the protein and the Mexican taste of the good-old baked beans by mixing diced tomatoes, chopped onions, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, and overnight-soaked beans, and allowing them to either bake or boil and then simmer at reduced heat until fully cooked.

Chickpea Salad

Soak chickpea overnight and make your own salad by adding your favourite veggies and salad toppings. This one is highly recommended as it is power-packed with protein and is very low on calories. This makes it the ideal dinner.

Tofu Lasagna

In your good-old lasagna, replace the noodles or chicken with layers of the protein-rich tofu and cheese. You can even add spinach and other veggies to this mouth-watering dish.
