I have always been a huge fan of piercings. I had my first piercing when I was just 4-years-old. Although I was forced to get my ears done at that time by my mother and grandma, I didn't quite mind it. And this what made me consider getting a septum piercing in the first place. And yes, my mother was all for it. In fact, she was the only person apart from myself who thought that a septum piercing will actually look good on me. She's cool and I thought the piercing would be cool just like her.

If you are wondering whether I am scared of the pain, let me tell you that I am. Because I'm one of those lucky few who do not scream in pain when their body is being pierced. Well, it's true. None of my piecing have hurt when I got them done and I have 8 piercing in total. But septum piercing was different feeling altogether. I mean, it still didn't hurt, but no one prepared me for what was coming next. For instance,

I Had No Idea I Would Develop An Unhealthy Obsession With My Nose

It started the moment the piercing guy inserted the nose pin inside my nose. I knew a septum piercing meant the nose pin or the ring will permanently be inside my noise. But, what I didn't know was that the feeling won't ever leave me--the feeling of something lodged inside the bridge of my nostrils.

So, I touched my septum immediately after it was done and have continued even after a year. I am not exaggerating when I say that my thumb and my index finger are always in my nose, touching the nose pin. It's disgusting when you do it in public, at least that's what people say.

Dealing With A Cold Will Become A Herculean Task

No one likes getting a cold and a cough. Not only do you sneeze all the time, but the flu actually takes all your strength away. However, if you have a septum piercing like I do, common cold becomes a shraap.

Be it blowing my nose or just sneezing, everything was a struggle during the healing process. Because you know what? It may not have hurt when I got the piercing, but it did hurt afterwards--especially when I tried to blow my nose and a thread from the handkerchief got stuck in the nose pin. OUCH.

Your Nose Is Always Ticklish And You Can't Itch That Scratch

After struggling with a nose nose pin for months, I decided to get a very pretty septum ring instead. When I say struggle, I mean struggle with cleaning my nose, because boogers are tricky to remove. No, it's not gross, no matter what you say.

However, my ring came with its added problems--the constant itching. No, it wasn't because I was allergic to the silver, but because it kept touching my skin. So I scratched and kept on scratching, but that itch never went away.

If You Start Wearing A Septum Ring, People Will Stare--Alot

When you get a piercing on your nose, people tend to stare. It's normal human behavior, you see? I mean it isn't just because you have sparkling thing on your face, it's because it's right there in front of everyone. But, as septum piercings aren't that common, people stare a little more. Starting from judgmental stares from aunties in the metro to questionable glares from kids--septum rings have a way of putting you into the spotlight. And not in a nice way.

I Have Been Called A Bull A Million Times

Septum rings, in my opinion, make people around you a little crazy. I mean, maybe it's just my idiotic friends, but I was often called a bull. Why? Because apparently bulls have their septum pierced by their masters, and I looked just like them. I have given up on rings now and I'm back to wearing a nose pin instead. But what about my obsession with my nose you ask? Well, I have learned to lie. Every time someone asks me why I keep touching my nose all the time, I just lie that I have an allergy! Problem solved, for now at least.
