Three cheers for the women of Lipstick Under My Burkha for still showing a middle finger to those who don't want women to talk about sex

How do you respond to the society that wants women to be quiet about sex? Let women of Lipstick Under My Burkha teach you.

You probably must have heard about Lipstick Under My Burkha by now. After all, not only did the film win several awards in international film festivals, but also created quite a controversy thanks to the Censor Board of India. And the women haven't stopped after that. Actors Konkona Sen Sharma, Rathna Pathak Shah, Aahna Kumra, and Plabita Borthakur have been showing middle finger to the society that constantly asks women to shut up about sex.

It all started when the filmmakers released the official poster of the film that had, you guessed it--a middle finger in it. Here's the poster, have a look at it yourself.

Next came the trailer. The official trailer of the film, which is directed by Alankrita Srivastava, was already released earlier this year. But once CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification), after much struggle, passed the film with an A certificate, the filmmakers released another trailer that was exactly the answer the board deserved.

CBFC doesn't want movies to talk about sex in a mature way, but the trailer of the film didn't give a f*ck. To be honest, it seems to us as if the filmmakers and the actors were giving a message straight to CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani. We don't even blame them for it!

And now the actresses have started a campaign, which they are calling a #LipstickRebellion, asking women to post selfies of them showing a middle finger along with a lipstick. Filmmakers Zoya Akhtar and Ekta Kapoor also posted their selfies.

And that's not all, in a recent interview with comic Radhika Vaz, the women candidly told her what was on their mind--sex.

Vaz played a game of Word Association (for those unaware of it, the game involves replying with the first thing that comes to one's mind when prompted with a word) with the stars. And the game obviously became interesting as the stars didn't shy away to reveal what was on their minds.

You can watch the video here.

In a society where women are supposed to act a certain way that "safeguards their modesty", which includes covering themselves up and keeping quiet about sex, this film is a big f**k you. And we won't deny the fact that we are eagerly waiting for this movie to release because we have had enough of misogynistic narratives.
