Trump's win is a sad moment for those who wanted to see a woman leading one of the most powerful nations in the world. But battles are won and battles are lost, the important thing is-- the war must go on.

Life is not easy; and the challenges that women face everyday haven't changed. Personal tragedies, professional hurdles, and then the bigotry of the world--the cross can get too heavy to bear.

But don't worry, and let music come to your rescue. These nine songs are anthems in their own right, and can help you get through whatever life throws at you.

Let It Go by Idina Menzel
It takes courage to rise above repression. If you ever need to power up to do something, then this is your song. It's about letting go of fear and being your true self. You'll love yourself more when you 'rise like the break of dawn' and see that 'the perfect girl is gone'.

These Boots are Made for Walking by Nancy Sinatra
Taking no nonsense from people is another thing women need to do more of. The boots signify power and they're made for walking, i.e. action. If you've been taking on the passive role and cutting some slack to a person who's taking you for granted, snatch your power back with this song.

You Don't Own Me by Lesley Gore
Nobody owns you. When you're sick of being told what to do, what to say, and what to wear, --turn up the volume on this one because no one has the right to ask you to change. That applies to your name, clothes, family, career, and just about anything that matters to you.

Respect by Aretha Franklin
R-E-S-P-E-C-T, find out what it means to me. Tell this to whoever you want to be with. If you're not getting the respect you think you deserve, time to move on. Just make sure to get your own, authentic version of respect that you'd like.

I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor
Nobody's existence defines you. If you're someone's option or convenience, do yourself a favour--look this person in the eye and say 'you can't hurt me with goodbye. I won't crumble or lay down and die. I will survive'. Every line of this song is worth remembering.

9 to 5 by Dolly Parton
Let's veer towards work now. How often do we get comfortable just waiting for what we deserve and hoping it'll come by? A good dose of this song will nudge you towards taking the credit for the work you did, getting that raise and asking for that promotion. This should be playing on your mP3 player on the way to work. If that doesn't do it for you, the video surely will.

Don't Call Me Baby by Madison Avenue
We've all been 'deared', 'sweethearted' and 'babied' at office one time or another. Call them out on it. Tell them it's condescending. And if you need to let out some steam before you say it, here's your song.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper
If you feel like you're living a little less just because you're a woman, and societal restrictions are bringing you down--then this is your song. It talks about being yourself and not letting a boy hide you away from the world.

Aicha by Khaled
Of all the songs that capture the spirit of equality, this one sung by a man does it best. A beautiful French song, it talks about a man claiming his undying love for his woman by impressing her with gold, jewels, exotic fruits and riches. He promises to write poetry for her and wipe her tears. But Aicha doesn't care or listen to him. She eventually answers: 'Keep your treasures. I deserve more. Cages are cages even if they are made of gold. I want the same rights as you and respect each day. I don't ask for anything but love.'

That is the essence of feminism. Getting our rights, respect and being valued for who we are. If you liked these songs and their message, you're a feminist too. Be proud to say it.
