Imagine this: you have a wedding function to attend and you are planning on wearing your favourite lengeha. And since you want to look fab, you intend on getting a flat stomach before the day arrives. However, the draconian diets and exhaustive gym routines are sucking the life out of you.

Ladies, we have some good news for you. Rejoice when we tell you that you don't need to turn into a gym rat to get rid of all the flab from your belly. Instead, you can achieve your dream bod by doing one very simple exercise.

Any guesses here? FYI it's not sit-ups or crunches. All you need to do every day is a set of planks! Don't believe is? Well, at least this is what a health report by Harvard Medical School suggests.

Titled Core Exercises, the report explains that sit-ups or crunches strengthen just a few muscle groups. Whereas a good core workout helps strengthen the entire set of core muscles you use every day.

"The reason planks may be the more effective way to get a tighter core is because this exercise, unlike crunches which only target abdominal muscles, targets several groups of muscles. These include muscles in your sides, front and back. Only targeting your abdominal muscles will not give the desired strong core," states the report.

Also, crunches are probably not a very good idea if you intend to work on your abdomen muscles. "Crunches may also be hard on different parts of your body, including your back, which gets pushed against the floor. When you pull your body up into a sit-up position, you're working a group of muscles called the hip flexors which run from your thighs to the lumbar vertebrae in your lower back. When these muscles get too tight or become overly-strengthened, they can yank on your lower spine," it further states.
